Join us this coming Thursday with Valerie Masten of The Rare Wine Co. for a chance to dig into one of the most iconic producers of Chenin Blanc in the world-Domaine Huet. Since its founding in 1928, Vouvray’s Domaine Huet has had a focus in site specific and age-worthy wines in an impressive array of styles, from sparkling, dry, semi-dry, and breathtaking dessert styles, displaying the many sides of our favorite grape variety. We’ll be showcasing the wines via a by-the-glass takeover as well as a flight of wines of the same vintage, variety and style, grown in different sites. For our industry friends who we know are some of the most enthusiastic supporters of not only this producer but Chenin Blanc as a variety, your first glass is on us!
Chenin Blanc has been identified with Vouvray since at least the 9th century, and many of its great vineyards were known by the 14th century. The domaine’s founder, Victor Huët, was a Parisian bistro owner. However, with lungs and nerves shattered by his experiences in WWI, Victor re-settled to the town of Vouvray in France’s beautiful Loire Valley. He soon purchased the first of his great vineyards, Le Haut-Lieu, in 1928, and Domaine Huet was born.
Valerie Masten is the current National Sales Director of The Rare Wine Co., one of America’s premier wine merchants and importers representing over 40 iconic producers. Previously she served as the vice president for national sales at Skurnik Wines & Spirits, one of the country’s largest independent importers and distributors. She also works to train wine professionals and sommeliers in markets across the country on topics as diverse as grower Champagne and 19th-century Madeira.
