Justis Brokenrope

Wathéča Records is a music archival project founded by Minneapolis-based musician and educator, Justis Brokenrope (Sičháŋǧu Lakȟóta). Brokenrope sources, documents, and curates North American indigenous music that was, and still is, overlooked in the canons of rock, folk, and country music. Brokenrope is currently the host of Wathéča Radio on NTS, and in the past year has presented his work at Walker Art Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Chinati Foundation.

Justis brought in some really amazing and rare records when he came through the bar in May. Linked above is a YouTube playlist of a handful of tracks he played, but really your best bet is to dig around the Wathéča Records YouTube page and listen to his NTS Radio show. Through this archival work, Justis is doing a really important and special thing that’s not to be missed.
