Wines OF italy THREE-PART SERIES
Italy can feel endless when it comes to wine, with dozens of regions, hundreds of grape varieties, and a language all its own. This three-part series is designed as a way in.
Each class focuses on a single region, Piedmont, Campania, and Tuscany, using four wines and a few thoughtful snacks to explore what makes each place distinct. Along the way, we’ll build a framework for tasting with intention: how to notice what’s in your glass, how to describe it in your own words, and how to think about pairing wine with food in a way that feels intuitive.
Whether you’re just getting into wine or looking to deepen your understanding, the goal is simple: to leave more comfortable, more curious, and more connected to what you’re drinking.
Classes take place on two Sundays every month from 3:30-5:00. Choose the date you prefer!
PART I — Piedmont
We’ll begin in Piedmont, in Italy’s northwest, a region known for the famous Barolo and Barbarseco. With structure, perfume, and some of the country’s most iconic wines, this benchmark region is one to know!
Through four wines, we’ll explore the range of the region, from bright, and textured whites to the more structured, tannic reds it’s best known for. Along the way, we’ll talk about what gives these wines their identity: grape variety, climate, and tradition, and how those elements show up in the glass.
This class is about learning how to approach wines that can feel serious or intimidating, and finding a way into them that feels personal.
APR. 12
APR. 26
PART II — CAMPANIA
Campania, on Italy’s southern coast near Naples, offers a different perspective, with sun, proximity to the sea, and a deep history reflected in its native grape varieties.
You may not recognize as many of the names here, but the wines are some of Italy’s most distinctive. We’ll taste four examples that highlight the region’s native grapes like Fiano, Greco, and Aglianico, and talk about how volcanic soils (thanks to nearby Mount Vesuvius) and coastal influences shape their character.
If Piedmont is about precision and form, Campania opens the door to something more relaxed and expressive, shaped by a rich cultural history.
MAY 31
MAY 24
PART III — Tuscany
We’ll close in Tuscany, home to some of Italy’s most recognizable wines, Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and the so-called “Super Tuscans.”
Through four wines, we’ll focus on Sangiovese, the grape at the heart of the region, and explore how it changes depending on where and how it’s grown and made. We’ll look at the differences between classic and modern styles, and what people mean when they talk about structure, balance, and age-worthiness.
Even if you’ve had Tuscan wine before, this class is about experiencing it with a better understanding of why it tastes the way it does, and how to choose (and enjoy) it with more intention.
